Neonatology

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provides healthcare services for newborn babies until 28 days of life. Starting at 28 weeks of gestation, the unit may receive babies of lower gestational ages as per the doctor’s order. It provides comprehensive nursing care and medical treatment for newborn requiring a higher level of care, constant supervision and monitoring.

Procedures used include: 

  • INSURE (Intubation Surfactant Extubation) 
  • Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) 
  • Central line umbilical venous and arterial 
  • PICC (Peripherally Inserted Central Lines) 
  • Peripheral arterial lines 
  • Cranial ultrasound by Consultant 
  • Echocardiography, when needed, by a Pediatric Cardiologist 
  • Chest tube insertion 
  • Thermoregulation 
  • Intravenous Access and maintenance 
  • Hemodynamic Monitoring 
  • Exchange transfusion 
  • Total Parenteral Nutrition 
  • Ventilator Support includes High frequency ventilation 
  • Oxygen Saturation monitoring  Promotion of breastfeeding and lactation assistance/device
