Occupational Therapy

The Occupational Therapy Department of Mediclinic Aspetar caters to both paediatric and adult patients whose functions have been limited by a physical injury or a neurological condition.
Paediatric occupational therapy focuses on habitation or equipping a child with skills and techniques necessary to take part in activities in self-care, school and social circles.
Some of the paediatric conditions treated include:

  • Cerebral palsy
  • Brain trauma
  • Spina Bifida
  • Brachial plexus injuries
  • Psychomotor development delay or global developmental delay
  • Dyspraxia or developmental coordination disorder
  • Learning disability (slow learners)
  • Sensory processing disorder (SPD) or sensory integration dysfunction
  • Fine motor skills problems
  • Hyperactivity

Adult occupational therapy focuses on regaining lost function due to injury in order to be able to return to work and re-assume the various responsibilities they may have as an individual.
Some of adult conditions treated include:

  • Cerebrovascular accident (stroke)
  • Spinal cord injury
  • Multiple sclerosis
