MEDICLINIC CITY HOSPITAL

Cardiothoracic Surgery Unit

The Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Mediclinic City Hospital offers a full range of adult and paediatric cardiac and thoracic surgery with emphasis placed on the evaluation and management of patients with ischemic heart disease, valvular disorders, congenital heart defects, aortic aneurysms and other thoracic and mediastinal pathologies including thoracic oncology.

The state of the art equipment in our custom-built heart centre, combined with an expert team of cardiothoracic surgeons and cardiologists makes us one of the most respected units of its kind in the region. The professionalism and experience of the support staff including cardiac anaesthetists, intensivists, nurses, technicians and the rehabilitation team is equally impressive.

Heart disease is common in the Gulf, the result of a sedentary lifestyle, poor diet, high incidence of smoking and diabetes and hot weather. The average age for patients presenting with coronary artery disease in the West is 65-70 whereas in this region it is around 45-50. Within this environment, it is crucial to provide education to help reduce the incidence of heart disease, whilst also offering international standards of healthcare to cardiothoracic patients who require it.  Our “Heart Team” is here to help.

Cardiothoracic surgery applies the latest scientific research and surgical techniques, whilst maintaining a highly diligent and meticulous approach to diagnosis and treatment. We insist that each patient receives highly personalised attention from their surgeon, and that the referring physicians stay involved, from the initial consultation right through to the patient's discharge and eventual follow-up visits.

Our team regularly updates its knowledge and skills by attending international and local conferences and workshops.

Mediclinic City Hospital has set a benchmark in cardiac care in the Gulf region and our results are comparable with the best centres in the world. Where once patients were inclined to travel abroad for heart surgery, increasingly they find the expertise required right here on their doorstep.

Our services include:

  • Coronary artery bypass grafting including total arterial revascularisation, beating heart surgery and endoscopic vessel harvesting
  • Heart valve repairs and replacement
  • Repair of congenital heart defects in children and adults
  • Complex aortic aneurysms requiring replacement of the ascending aorta and aortic valve and re-implantation of the coronary arteries
