H.E Sheikh Abdulla Bin Mohamed Al Hamed, Chairman of the Department of Health, and Mr. Mohamed Al Hameli, Acting Undersecretary of the Department of Health, recently visited Mediclinic Airport Road Hospital, which is part of Mediclinic Middle East, and were briefed on the enhancement projects of the existing facility and the plans to expand the hospital by two and a half times its current size to include a Comprehensive Cancer Centre, multiple centres of excellence, further sub-specialities and an additional 130 beds.

David Hadley, Chief Executive Officer – Mediclinic Middle East, Joe Hazel, Hospital Director, and members of the hospital management gave a presentation on Mediclinic and its strategic plans, all of which are aimed at enhancing the provision of healthcare services and contributing to the development of the healthcare sector in Abu Dhabi and across the UAE.

H.E. Sheikh Abdulla Bin Mohamed Al Hamed, Chairman of Department of Health, said: “We at the Department of Health are working to activate the important role of the private sector in providing the best in class healthcare services to all nationals and residents in the Emirate and contributing to achieve the Emirate’s government development comprehensive plans, among them to create a sustainable healthcare sector. The private sector proves its efficiency day by day with its excellent healthcare providers, trained and qualified healthcare professionals and its adoption for latest technologies and innovation.”

David Hadley said: “After combining with Al Noor Hospitals Group in February 2016, Mediclinic’ s portfolio of healthcare facilities was further strengthened, particularly in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.” He added: “In addition to our current offerings in the area, we have several projects in the pipeline and underway including the opening of a 48-bed hospital in Madinat Zayed in 2020, as well as the expansion and renovation of our hospitals and outpatient facilities in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, among many others.”

“We are steadfast in our commitment to providing the highest quality care in line with the Department of Health’s strategy to position Abu Dhabi as a centre of excellence and innovation in healthcare,” he concluded.

Like the Comprehensive Cancer Centre which recently opened at Mediclinic City Hospital in Dubai, the Comprehensive Cancer Centre at Mediclinic Airport Road Hospital will be built in collaboration with Mediclinic Middle East’s sister platform in Switzerland, Hirslanden, with patients able to benefit from the sharing of knowledge and experience between some of the leading oncology experts in Europe and the Middle East, as well as access to the very latest treatment programmes and technology.

Mediclinc is a leading private healthcare provider with six hospitals and over 20 clinics with more than 700 inpatient beds in the UAE. Mediclinic Middle East, in turn, is a division of Mediclinic International, which operates in Southern Africa, Switzerland and the UAE and holds a 29.9% shareholding in Spire Healthcare in the UK.
