Hand Surgery

Mediclinic Welcare Hospital has introduced a hand surgery unit with a team of specialists who are expert in the surgical and non-surgical treatment of all conditions relating to the hand. The unit includes the most distinguished multi-disciplinary team members; Dr. Jamil Al-Jamali Consultant Plastic Surgeon and a specialist occupational therapist (OT) to provide the rehabilitation services.

To support the team of experts, Mediclinic Welcare Hospital is equipped with diagnostic modalities including x-ray, CT Scan and a 1.5 Tesla MRI.

There are many different diseases, conditions and injuries affecting the hand that can benefit from hand therapy or hand surgery. These include:

  • Trauma to soft tissue
  • Carpel Tunnel Syndrome

  • Burns and scars
  • Sports injuries

Dr. Al-Jamali is highly specialised in reconstructive and aesthetic surgery of the head and neck region, performing reconstruction of facial deformities caused by trauma or after tumour excision, which often require complex reconstructive procedures including microvascular surgery. He also has special interest and experience in dealing with congenital anomalies of the head and neck including cleft-lip and palate and vascular malformation of the head and neck. 

He has experience in facial nerve reconstruction surgeries including facial palsy reanimation using the most recent methods for muscle transfer. Aesthetic surgery of the face is an essential part of his speciality including facelifts, rhinoplasty, otoplasty, blepharoplasty (eyelids), soft tissue augmentation with fillers and autologous fat transfer, and Botox injections.  

As a plastic and hand surgeon with many years’ experience, he performs burn surgeries, elective and acute hand surgery procedures, including congenital hand anomalies and carpal bone surgeries, peripheral nerves surgeries, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery of the breasts, abdominoplasty,  liposuction, scar revision, sarcoma surgery, and reconstructive surgery of the lower extremities including diabetic foot and lymphedema.

Dr. Al-Jamali has conducted research in hand surgery, reconstructive surgery of the maxillofacial skeleton, and concepts and challenges of face transplantation. He has also presented scientific papers in European and international journals and conferences.

Dr. Al-Jamali is a German- and European-board-certified plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgeon (Facharzt, EBOPRAS). He is also a board-certified hand surgeon and a fellow of the European Society of Surgery of the Hand (FESSH). He successfully completed three-and-a-half year subspeciality training fellowships in paediatric, adult craniomaxillofacial surgery, and head and neck microvascular reconstruction in Germany. He is a member of Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh), a member of the German Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and a member of Interplast Germany. He earned his MBBCh and MSc (general surgery) in Egypt.
