Urology is the branch of medicine that focuses on the urinary tract of males and females, and on the reproductive system of males. The organs covered by urology include the kidneys, ureters, urinary bladder, urethra and the male reproductive organs.

The Department of Urology diagnoses, treats, and manages patients with the following urological disorders:

Prostatic diseases (infections of the prostate, enlargement of the prostate in elderly men, early diagnosis of cancer of the prostate)

  • Urinary Stones (diagnosis and management of stones with latest equipment without surgical cuts)
  • Management of male impotence and infertility
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Birth defects of urinary & genital organs
  • Andro-urology

It is equipped with the latest urology equipment including resectoscopes, ureteroscopes, nephroscopes, C-Arm image intensifier which is a mobile x-ray machine in the operating theatre needed for extraction of uretric and kidney stones through telescopes, and Calcusplit which is one of the latest intracorporeal lithotripters to fragment the stones.

The department also includes paediatric cystocopes and resectoscopes which enables  infants and children with congenital urethral obstruction to be operated on without any surgical cuts.

Other facilities include:

  • ESWL - Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy
  • Urodynamics - uroflowmetry and cystometry which are meant to assess obstruction to urinary flow and functions of the bladder
  • Ultrasound - abdomen and transrectal
  • Transrectal ultrasound guided gun biopsy
  • Flexible cystoscopy
  • Endoscopic procedures such as resection of prostate and removal of renal stones
  • Ureteroscopy
  • Penile implants and acoustic doppler studies
