Over the last decade, survival of children with haematological and oncological diseases has improved dramatically as a result of significant research in these fields, and aggressive treatment with different modalities including surgical resection chemotherapy, radiation and bone marrow transplant has improved the cure rate of most childhood cancer.
Scope of service
Services include screening, laboratory and specialised diagnostic tests, and treatment of acute leukaemia, lymphoma and solid tumours. Treatment plans are implemented using the expertise of a multidisciplinary team including an American Board certified paediatric oncologist, paediatric oncology nurses together with a play therapist and a social worker for psychological support for the patient and family.
Other services include comprehensive treatment for patients with chronic haematological diseases e.g. Sickle cell disease, Thalassemia and various bleeding disorders.
