The Fetal Anomaly scan also referred to as anatomy scan evaluates anatomic structure if the fetus, placenta and the maternal pelvic organs. This scan is an important part of the prenatal care and mostly done by a fetal medicine consultant.
The purpose of the ultrasound is to measure the fetus so any growth abnormalities can be quickly recognised later stage of pregnancy, to assess congenital malformations and to plan for delivery.
Standard Anomaly scan includes:
- Fetal numbers
- Fetal Cardiac Activity
- Fetal Position relative to uterus and cervix
- Location and appearance of the placenta
- Amnionic Fluid volume
- Gestational age assessment
- Fetal Anatomical survey
- Evaluation of the maternal uterus, tubes, ovaries and bladder when appropriate
