- Dr. Sara Al Bastaki is a Consultant General, Colorectal Surgeon from the United Arab Emirates with extensive expertise in complex gastrointestinal, colorectal, abdominal wall, and pelvic floor surgery. She completed her medical degree at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI), followed by Visceral surgical residency training in Germany, and subsequently undertook a three-year fellowship in Colorectal Surgery across leading centers in Germany and London.
She worked as a Consultant Surgeon at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC), Abu Dhabi, where she also served as Division Head of General Surgery.
In parallel, she is the Founder and President of the Emirates Society of Colon & Rectal Surgery (ESCRS) and has served as Chair of three consecutive editions of the Emirates International Colorectal Congress, contributing significantly to regional and international surgical education and collaboration.
She established a specialized Multidisciplinary Pelvic Floor Disorders Clinic within SEHA in Abu Dhabi, delivering integrated patient-centred care through MDT decision-making involving colorectal surgery, urology, physiotherapy, and allied specialties. Her pelvic floor practice includes pelvic floor assessment, anorectal manometry, and transanal ultrasound.
In December 2023, she joined Mediclinic City Hospital and Mediclinic Airport Road as a consultant colorectal surgeon.
Her colorectal expertise encompasses minimally invasive and laparoscopic surgery for benign and malignant colorectal diseases, advanced management of low rectal cancer including organ preserving surgery TAMIS and TaTME, and comprehensive proctology services. She has also introduced innovative minimally invasive techniques for pilonidal disease and complex anal fistulas, including VAAFT and EPSIT.
