What is Acute coronary syndrome?

Acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is a term used for serious conditions caused by a sudden reduction in blood flow to the heart. The programme cares for adults with ST-elevation myocardial infarction, non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction, and unstable angina requiring intervention.

The programme focuses on reducing delays to cardiac catheterisation, providing evidence-based treatment as quickly as possible, and helping patients understand their condition throughout their hospital stay.

JCI Clinical Care Program Certification

Mediclinic Airport Road Hospital was the first private hospital in Abu Dhabi to achieve Joint Commission International Clinical Care Program Certification for its acute coronary syndrome programme. The certification recognises that the programme met nationally and internationally recognised standards of care.

A multidisciplinary cardiac team

Care is delivered by a multidisciplinary team that includes interventional cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, catheterisation laboratory nurses, and specialists from the clinical areas involved in ACS care. Dietitians and other supporting teams also contribute to care, helping patients access the surgical or non-surgical treatment they need. The programme follows international standards and uses dedicated cardiac facilities, instruments, and technology to support a wide range of cardiac procedures.
