Core competencies

Coronary angiography: Performed over 5,000 diagnostic coronary catheterisations (including graft studies) with primary radial access. Routinely utilises Fractional Flow Reserve (FFR) measurements and intravascular imaging (OCT/IVUS).

Percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI): High-volume operator with over 3,500 PCI cases, predominantly acute cases. Skilled in complex calcific and bifurcation PCI with full integration of intravascular imaging, lithotripsy (ShockWave), rotational atherectomy, and orbital atherectomy. Over 95% radial access rate.

  • Extensive experience managing complex patients with challenging clinical and procedural needs.
  • Expertise in cardiogenic shock management, including Impella implantation.
  • Experienced in treating Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest (OHCA) patients with ongoing cardiac arrest, including ECMO installation.

Transcatheter Valve Implantaton (TAVI): Performed over 1,000 transfemoral TAVI cases, including complex iliac interventions and valve-in-valve procedures. Proficient with Edwards Sapien, Meril Myval Octapro, and Medtronic Evolut valves. Routinely interprets TAVI CT scan assessments.

Echocardiography: Fully competent in adult transthoracic echocardiography, transesophageal echocardiography, and stress echocardiography.

24 hour Holter monitor: Skilled in 24-hour Holter ECG and blood pressure monitoring.

Summary
Dr. Julia Ellert, MD, is a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at Mediclinic Parkview Hospital. She obtained her Doctor of Medicine degree from the Technical University of Munich, Germany, graduating in 2006. She completed her residency at the Medical Clinic and Policlinic of the Technical University of Munich Hospital, training in gastroenterology, plastic surgery, traumatology, dermatology, and allergology. She further pursued clinical training in internal medicine and cardiology at the Department of Cardiovascular Disease, German Heart Center, and the Department of Gastroenterology, TUM University Hospital. In 2013, she achieved German board certification in Internal Medicine and Cardiology. She subsequently completed a fellowship in Interventional Cardiology and Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) at the German Heart Center in Munich, focusing on invasive treatment of ischemic heart disease and aortic valve disease.

Dr. Ellert then moved to Denmark, where she served as a Consultant in Interventional Cardiology and TAVI at Odense University Hospital, one of Scandinavia’s leading cardiac centers, serving 1.2 million people and performing over 2,000 PCI cases and around 300 transfemoral TAVIs annually. Her main clinical duties have included invasive diagnostics and treatment of ischemic heart disease, complex catheter-based interventions, and 24/7 on-call responsibilities for acute cardiac emergencies. She has managed patients with cardiogenic shock, including Impella implantation, and participated in E-CPR teams performing ECMO installation in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest cases. Dr. Ellert has extensive expertise in complex PCI, including physiology- and imaging-guided interventions, Left Main and bifurcation PCI, lithotripsy, and rotational atherectomy. She has performed over 5,000 diagnostic coronary angiographies (including graft studies) and more than 3,500 PCI procedures, with >95% radial access. In the TAVI field, she has planned and performed over 1,000 transfemoral procedures, including complex iliac interventions and valve-in-valve implantations, using devices such as the Edwards Sapien Valve, Meryl’s Myval Octapro, and Medtronic Evolut Valve. She is also experienced in managing procedural complications and routinely interprets TAVI CT scans.

Dr. Ellert holds certifications in Interventional Cardiology from both the European Association of Percutaneous Cardiovascular Interventions (EAPCI) and the German Society of Cardiology (DGK).
