Our dermatology teams offer aesthetic skin care alongside the medical care they're known for, across the UAE. Treatments include injectable options, chemical peels and laser solutions, chosen around the concern you'd like to address. A dedicated skin clinic at Mediclinic Dubai Mall complements the dermatology departments across our network, so aesthetic and medical dermatology sit together.

What is aesthetic dermatology?

Aesthetic dermatology is the appearance-focused side of skin care. It uses non-surgical and minimally invasive treatments to change how the skin looks and feels, addressing concerns such as fine lines, uneven pigmentation, and scarring. Whether to have any of it done is a personal choice, and healthy skin comes in many forms and tones. It complements medical dermatology, which diagnoses and treats skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, and skin cancer.

When might you consider aesthetic dermatology?

You might consider a consultation if you'd like to address:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Uneven skin tone or pigmentation
  • Acne scars or other scarring
  • Loss of firmness or skin that has begun to sag
  • Unwanted facial or body hair
  • Redness or sun damage

Treatment for these concerns is generally elective, and the decision is entirely yours. A consultation is the starting point, where a dermatologist assesses your skin, discusses what you would like to change and explains which options may be suitable for you.

If an underlying medical skin concern is identified during the consultation, such as a mole that requires further assessment, it will be evaluated and managed appropriately or referred for further care if needed.

What to expect

Your first visit usually begins with a consultation. The dermatologist examines your skin and asks about your medical history and any past procedures. Together, you discuss what you would like to achieve and which treatments may be suitable. Some options need a patch test first, or a small trial on one area to see how your skin reacts. You'll also hear what the aftercare and recovery involve, so you can weigh things up without pressure.

The treatments themselves vary. Some treatments, such as injectable treatments, can be performed relatively quickly and usually involve limited downtime, although temporary redness, swelling or bruising may occur; others, such as resurfacing lasers or deeper peels, need recovery time. Many work best as a short course rather than a single session, with results that build gradually and fade over time. Your dermatologist explains what each option can and can't do, and whether it suits your skin, before you agree to anything.

Aesthetic dermatology at Mediclinic

We offer aesthetic dermatology through our dermatology departments and a dedicated skin clinic at Mediclinic Dubai Mall. Common treatments include injectable treatments, chemical peels and laser hair removal. Lasers can also soften pigmentation and calm facial redness. You'll find this care in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.

Because our dermatologists work across both aesthetic and medical skin care, an appearance concern and a health concern can be looked at together. The skin clinic offers further services too, such as skin-tightening and facial treatments. Every treatment begins with an assessment of your skin and your goals, and we'll talk you through what's suitable and what to expect afterwards. We recommend only what we believe fits your skin.

Frequently asked questions

Answers to the questions we hear most often.

Aesthetic dermatologists focus on the look and feel of your skin rather than disease. They help with concerns such as fine lines, pigmentation and scarring. The treatments they use are elective, so it's care you choose rather than care you need.

Medical dermatology diagnoses and treats skin disease, such as eczema, acne or skin cancer. Aesthetic dermatology focuses on appearance, using elective treatments to change how healthy skin looks. Many dermatologists practise both, and can guide you to the right care.

Your first appointment is a consultation. The dermatologist looks at your skin, asks about your history and what you'd like to change, and explains which options might help. Some treatments need a patch test, and nothing goes ahead until you're ready.

The right treatment depends on your skin, the concern you'd like to address and how much recovery time suits you. A dermatologist can talk through the options at a consultation, including what each can achieve and what it can't.
