Paediatric Infectious Disease is a subspeciality of medicine that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases in children.

The specialised paediatric infectious diseases consultant at Mediclinic City Hospital has the prerequisite qualifications and experience to understand the unique signs and symptoms of infections in children that are different from adults. The consultant’s sub-speciality is well-suited to providing guidance on the appropriate evaluation and treatment for children with suspected infections, including those who are immunocompromised, those with cancer or heart disease, recent travellers, post-operative children or neonates; including advice on vaccination for healthy children for travel or after exposure to infectious diseases.

Using evidence-based practice, the paediatric infectious disease consultant provides diagnosis and treatment to children suffering from a wide range of acute, recurrent, and chronic infections. Working in collaboration with other paediatric specialists, a multi-disciplinary approach is undertaken to customise appropriate treatment plans individualised to the patient’s needs.
