Dr Prashanth Bhat is a UK board-certified Consultant Neonatologist with 17 years of experience in neonatology, including 10 years as a Consultant Neonatologist.

He received his medical degree (MBBS) from Karnataka University, India, followed by a postgraduate diploma (DCH) from Pune University, India. He then went on to complete his paediatric training in London, followed by speciality training in neonatal medicine in London and Cambridge. He has gained extensive experience working in eminent UK neonatal centres such as King’s College Hospital (London), St Thomas’s Hospital (London), Addenbrooke’s Hospital (Cambridge), and the Royal Sussex County Hospital (Brighton). He has also worked in two of the busiest neonatal transport services in the UK (London and Cambridge), gaining substantial experience in managing and transferring babies with both medical and surgical problems. He was awarded the Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Neonatology from the UK in 2015.

Dr Bhat undertook neonatal respiratory research (MD) at King’s College London and gained invaluable experience in conducting research. He has published several research articles and delivered presentations at regional, national, and international meetings. He is a Fellow and Member of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, UK, and is also a member of the British Association of Perinatal Medicine, the Neonatal Society (UK), and the European Society of Cardiology.

He has received formal training in neonatal and paediatric echocardiography in London and holds a paediatric echocardiography certification in congenital heart defects from the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI). He regularly performs targeted neonatal echocardiography to manage babies with PPHN, PDA, and impaired cardiac function.

Dr Bhat is an enthusiastic and experienced teacher. He has mentored BSc and MSc students through their research projects throughout his career. He is a UK Resuscitation Council-certified Newborn Life Support (NLS) instructor and course director and regularly taught on UK NLS courses. He had been a key faculty member on several national courses, including MRCPCH Clinical Preparation, Hands-on ECHO, and neonatal ventilation courses.
Dr Prashanth Bhat has extensive experience in the care of extremely premature infants from 22 weeks’ gestation onwards.
