NIPT
A blood screening test from 10 weeks of pregnancy that estimates the chance of selected chromosome conditions in your baby.

What NIPT is
Non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT), sometimes called cell-free DNA testing, analyses a sample of the mother’s blood to assess the chance of selected chromosome conditions in the baby.
The test can be taken from 10 weeks of pregnancy. It uses a small blood sample and does not increase the risk of miscarriage.
NIPT options and prices
Targeted (basic): AED 1,299
Genome-Wide Screen: AED 1,499
What to know before you test
- Results are expected in 10 to 14 days.
- NIPT is more than 99% accurate for detecting abnormal chromosome numbers such as trisomies 21, 18, and 13.
- NIPT is a screening test, not a diagnostic test. A result showing a higher chance needs diagnostic testing for confirmation.
- It does not test for every possible chromosome abnormality.
- It cannot diagnose or rule out structural conditions such as fetal heart defects.
- In a twin pregnancy, a positive result cannot identify which fetus is affected.
Genetic counselling
Pre-test and post-test genetic counselling is available at Mediclinic Middle East facilities. A genetic counsellor can help you understand what the test can and cannot tell you, consider the information in the context of your pregnancy, and discuss next steps after your result.
Guidance from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recommends that NIPT be made available to pregnant women regardless of maternal age or baseline risk.
