Fertility Care

We help couples and individuals find out why pregnancy isn't happening and what can help. That can include fertility medicines, minor procedures and assisted reproduction such as IVF. Each plan is built around your own situation, and your specialist talks you through the options before you decide. Our fertility care is delivered by a specialist centre within Mediclinic Middle East.
What is fertility care?
Fertility care, also called reproductive medicine, supports individuals and couples who are planning or trying to grow their family. We assess the reproductive health of both partners, where appropriate, to understand any factors that may be affecting fertility and discuss the options available. Care may include counselling, lifestyle advice, medicines, procedures and assisted reproduction, with support and follow-up throughout treatment.
When should you see a fertility specialist?
It may be time to see a fertility specialist if:
- You have been trying to conceive for about a year without success
- You are over 35 and have been trying for six months
- Your periods are irregular or have stopped
- You already know you have PCOS, endometriosis or another condition that affects fertility
- You have had two or more miscarriages
- You are worried about sperm count or quality
You don't need to be experiencing fertility difficulties to seek advice. If you're facing treatment that may affect your fertility, such as cancer treatment, or are considering fertility preservation for future family planning or medical reasons, a fertility specialist can discuss options such as egg or sperm freezing with you.
You can usually contact a fertility service directly, although your insurer may require a referral. If you are having difficulty conceiving, seeking advice earlier can help identify any underlying factors and give you a clearer understanding of the treatment options available. Your specialist will explain what may be suitable for you, as outcomes vary from person to person.
What to expect
Your first visit starts with a conversation about your health, your history and how long you've been trying. Both partners are usually seen, since the cause can lie with either or both. Common first tests include hormone blood tests, a semen analysis and an ultrasound scan. Not everyone needs every test, and the specialist explains why each one is suggested. Together these help explain what might be getting in the way before any treatment begins.
What comes next depends on the tests. For some, advice on timing, weight management or lifestyle is enough. Others do better with medicines to encourage ovulation, or with IUI (prepared sperm placed into the womb). Where these aren't right, the specialist may suggest IVF, or ICSI, a single sperm injected into an egg. IVF is one option among several, not the automatic answer, and we keep you informed.
Fertility at Mediclinic
Our fertility care is provided through Bourn Hall Fertility Centre, now part of Mediclinic Middle East. Our teams guide you through testing, treatment and assisted reproduction where it's needed. Because tests such as a semen analysis are done on site, you and your partner can be seen in one place. We work with our obstetrics and gynaecology colleagues when pregnancy follows. You'll find our fertility services in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.
