We offered specialist services for adults, children and young people across Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, with support for patients and their families throughout their care journey.
What is psychiatry?
Psychiatry is a medical speciality that focuses on the assessment, treatment and prevention of mental health conditions. Psychiatrists are medical doctors, so they can assess your physical health, prescribe medicines and arrange talking therapies. This sets them apart from psychologists, who provide therapy and assessment but don't prescribe, and from neurologists, who treat physical diseases of the brain and nerves. Care often continues over months, adjusting as you recover.

What to expect
Your first appointment is mostly a conversation. The psychiatrist wants to understand how you've been feeling and what's been happening in your life. They may check your physical health and, where it helps, arrange questionnaires or blood tests to rule out other causes. Everything you share is treated in confidence. Together you reach an understanding of what's going on.
Treatment is shaped around you and often combines more than one approach. Talking therapies such as cognitive behavioural therapy help many people; medicines can ease the symptoms of conditions like depression or bipolar disorder; and practical support involves your family where you want it. For severe illness, care may include a stay in hospital. Your psychiatrist explains the options and agrees each step with you.
Your privacy and confidentiality are important parts of your care. Your psychiatrist would explain your options, answer your questions, and involve you in decisions about your treatment at every stage full.
Psychiatry at Mediclinic
We provide psychiatric care at hospitals and clinics in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, so support is available across the Emirates. Our psychiatrists and psychologists work together, and because only a psychiatrist can prescribe medicines, your care can move easily between talking therapy and medical treatment. We assess and treat conditions such as depression, anxiety and psychosis, in adults and children.
Where a child or young person needs help, our child and adolescent teams involve the family in care. Alongside medication and talking therapies, we offer psychological testing and practical techniques to manage stress and improve sleep. Consultations are private and confidential, in Arabic or English.
