- Dr. Aruna G. Varma has over 20 years of experience in Anaesthesia, and has been practising as an anaesthesiologist in Dubai since 2005. She has been the head of department of Anaesthesia and ICU at premium private hospitals in Dubai. Dr. Aruna completed her speciality training in Anaesthesia and superspeciality training in Cardiac Anaesthesia at LTMG Hospital, Mumbai, India, one of the most renowned and tertiary government hospitals in India.
Her clinical expertise includes cardiothoracic anaesthesia – she is specially interested in fast track eecovery after beating heart surgery. She holds the unique distinction of providing high thoracic epidural anaesthesia for the first awake CABG and the first awake aortic valve replacement in the Middle East in 2007.
She has conducted bariatric anaesthesia for more than 3000 surgeries including a post liver transplant sleeve gastrectomy and a 270kg sleeve gastrectomy patient.
She was an integral part of a high volume joint replacement centre in Dubai where she gave anaesthesia for a quadruple joint replacement (bilat. hip and bil. knee) in the same patient in the same sitting.
She is also well experienced with labour analgesia, paediatric anaesthesia and handling all kinds of critical medical emergencies.
