Mediclinic at Home: support for chronic conditions
Mediclinic at Home is a chronic disease management programme that brings together virtual and physical healthcare to give you a customised treatment plan and integrated care from the comfort of your home or workplace.
You’ll stay connected to a dedicated clinical team, who monitor your health and provide support to help improve your outcomes and wellbeing. Services are offered both virtually and in person, based on medical necessity.
We’ve worked with Huma to develop an app that helps you track and understand your health. The information you share through the app is private and secure, and is only shared with your care team so they can understand how you’re doing.
How your care plan works
Mediclinic at Home works by building an ongoing healthcare relationship between you and your care team, through continuous engagement and timely follow-ups.
You’ll have a dedicated care team focused on your comfort, carrying out virtual nursing rounds, teleconsultations, appointment bookings, and follow-ups. Your care team also arranges your medications and any necessary equipment, in agreement with your insurance, and delivers them to your home.
Your care team monitors your vitals and symptoms and steps in when needed, with reminders set within the app to help you log your readings and symptoms.

Make smart healthcare choices with confidence
Recognising the boundary between conditions that can be managed at home and those needing an ER is essential for the best outcomes. Home care options like a doctor at home service offer real convenience while maintaining safety and medical quality.
For a clear emergency, going to the ER can be lifesaving. For a non-urgent but important medical concern, calling a home visit doctor through Mediclinic Middle East means prompt, professional care without unnecessary stress.
If you’re facing a non-critical medical issue at home and aren’t sure whether it needs ER care, get in touch to discuss your symptoms and book a home visit doctor.
Home visit or the ER? Understanding your options
The guidance below can help you think through which option may suit your situation, but it isn’t a substitute for professional medical advice. If you’re ever unsure, or if you or someone with you is seriously unwell, call for emergency help or go to the nearest emergency department.
When a home visit doctor makes sense
- High fever with mild symptoms in vulnerable patients: if an infant or elderly person has a persistent fever, for example above 39°C (102°F), but no severe breathlessness or confusion, a home visit doctor can evaluate dehydration risk, check vital signs, and start treatment quickly, without needing an ER trip.
- Minor wound care or sutures: for stitches that need a follow-up dressing change or removal, a home visit doctor can spare you a clinic trip while still ensuring proper wound inspection and hygiene.
- Mobility-inhibited patients: an elderly patient recovering from surgery, or someone with a mobility impairment, may benefit far more from an in-home assessment for straightforward conditions, such as a urinary tract infection or mild dehydration, than a hospital visit.
- Stable chronic conditions with a sudden flare: if someone with asthma, high blood pressure, or diabetes experiences a controlled episode, such as slightly raised blood pressure or mild hypoglycaemia, a home visit doctor can help prevent escalation and allow monitoring without needing hospital-level intervention.
- Post-operative checks: distance from the hospital and minor complications can call for regular follow-up, so checking incision sites, reviewing medications, or monitoring pain can all be handled efficiently at home.
Red flags that need the ER, not a home visit
Home care is no replacement for hospital resources in situations like these, where quick transport and ER treatment significantly improve outcomes:
- Chest pain or severe breathlessness: sudden chest pressure, tightness, or suffocation-like breathlessness, even without a fever, can indicate a heart attack or pulmonary embolism, and needs direct ER treatment.
- Acute neurological symptoms: confusion, slurred speech, weakness on one side of the body, or a sudden loss of coordination may signal a stroke and call for urgent hospital-based care.
- Heavy bleeding or trauma: deep wounds with uncontrolled bleeding, a suspected fracture, a head injury, or a fall from a significant height all need ER evaluation, regardless of pain level.
- Severe abdominal or pelvic pain: intense, unrelenting pain, especially alongside fever or dizziness, needs imaging and lab work that only a hospital setting can provide.
- Altered consciousness or seizure: any loss of consciousness, repeated seizures, or confusion after a fall should prompt an ambulance call or a trip to the emergency room.
How to decide: home visit or ER?
Suitable for a home visit
- Fever in an infant or elderly person with minor symptoms
- Minor wound or suture check
- Controlled chronic flare-up
- Post-operative follow-up or mild surgical site concerns
Go to the ER
- Severe chest pain or breathlessness
- Stroke-like symptoms
- Heavy bleeding or trauma
- Persistent vomiting with abdominal pain and dehydration signs: use your judgement, but strongly consider the ER
