- Prof. Marija Hadji Lega is an internationally trained Maternal–Fetal Medicine Specialist and Obstetrician–Gynecologist with more than 25 years of clinical experience in fetal medicine, high-risk pregnancy care, clinical leadership, and academic teaching.
She completed her Specialization in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Subspecialization in Maternal–Fetal Medicine at the University “St. Cyril and Methodius”, Medical University – Skopje, North Macedonia, including parts of her advanced clinical education and training abroad at leading international institutions such as Burlo Garofolo Hospital (Trieste, Italy), University Eppendorf Clinic (Hamburg, Germany), AKH Vienna (Vienna, Austria), King’s College Hospital (London, UK), and the Perinatology Research Branch at Wayne State University School of Medicine / Detroit Medical Center (Detroit, Michigan, USA).
She holds a PhD in Perinatal Medicine from the Medical University of Niš, Serbia, and a Master’s Degree in Maternal–Fetal Medicine from the University of Barcelona, Spain.
To further enhance her expertise in advanced fetal diagnosis, Prof. Hadji Lega completed postgraduate diploma programs at Medicina Fetal Barcelona, University of Barcelona, including Postgraduate Diploma in Fetal Cardiology and Postgraduate Diploma in Fetal Neurology (2024–2025)
Following successful completion, she became officially certified by the University of Barcelona as a Fetal Cardiologist and Fetal Neurologist.
Prof. Hadji Lega dedicated 19 years to the University Clinic for Gynecology and Obstetrics in Skopje, the unique tertiary-level referral center in North Macedonia, where she played a key role in developing advanced high-risk pregnancy and fetal medicine services. During her tenure, she served as Head of the Department of High-Risk Pregnancy and Fetal Medicine.
She later strengthened her healthcare leadership expertise through:
• Academy for Managers, University of Sheffield (UK)
• Special Training in Hospital Management (Japan) – JICA Fellow
Following this advanced management training, she was appointed Medical Director and CEO of the University Clinic for Gynecology and Obstetrics in Skopje, serving in this leadership role for five years.
In recognition of her academic contributions, she was elected Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University “St. Cyril and Methodius,” where she was actively involved in the education and supervision of medical students and the clinical training of residents, combining evidence-based teaching with hands-on clinical excellence.
Prof. Hadji Lega has authored numerous scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals, including journals with high scientific impact (SCI indexed). She has served as principal investigator and leader of multiple research projects, and is a respected speaker and invited presenter at international, world, and national conferences.
She is a member of the Executive Board of the Mediterranean Society for Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and in recognition of her professional achievements, she was elected as an Associate Member (UAE Representative) at the International Academy of Perinatal Medicine. - Clinical Expertise
