Obstetrics
The Obstetrics Unit offers state-of-the-art, individualised care for women before, during and after childbirth. We believe that all parents have the right to informed choices when making decisions concerning pregnancy. We endeavor to provide a supportive environment, guiding couples through their pregnancy and preparing them in the best possible way for this unique life event. Our maternity services include:
- Pre-conception care and pregnancy diagnosis
- Parentcraft classes
- Low risk antenatal care
- High risk pregnancy care
- Fetal medicine including anomaly scans, amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling
- Detailed anomaly scans
- Multiple pregnancies
- Pre-eclampsia
- Preterm labour (more than 28 weeks gestation)
- Pregnancies in women with medical problems such as diabetes, renal and cardiovascular diseases
- Epidural anaesthesia
A complimentary outpatient appointment with a lactation consultant post-delivery
Gynaecology
The Gynaecology Unit delivers compassionate, expert care for a full range of gynaecological issues as well as expert minimally invasive surgical care across all gynaecological disciplines including benign gynaecology, ovarian cysts, endometriosis, fibroids, hysterectomies and gynaecological oncology. Services include:
- Treatment of early pregnancy complications such as hyperemesis gravidarum (nausea and vomiting), threatened miscarriages, ectopic pregnancies
- Menstrual disorders such as irregular or heavy periods
- Endometriosis
- Fibroids
- Investigation and management of ovarian cysts
- Laparoscopic (key-hole) surgery including removal of ovarian cysts, ectopic pregnancy, removal of ovarian masses, division of adhesions, treatment of endometriosis and hysterectomy
- Cervical cancer screening and management of abnormal Pap smears including colposcopy and large loop excision of transformation zone (LLETZ / LEEP)
- Ovarian screening including genetic counselling, pelvic scans and tumour markers
- Hysteroscopy including endometrial curettage, removal of endometrial polyps, resection of fibroids and endometrial ablation for heavy periods
- Gynaecological cancers
The provision of fetal medicine and gynaecological cancer is undertaken by accredited subspeciality consultants..
