Dr. Sally Elakkary is a German board-certified Consultant Neurologist with over 15 years of clinical and academic medical experience in Germany and more than 10 years of experience in neurology. Her practice encompasses the full spectrum of adult neurology, complemented by advanced subspecialty expertise in epileptology, neurogenetics, and clinical neurophysiology. After graduating from Alexandria University, Egypt, in 2005, Dr. Elakkary held an academic position, teaching undergraduate medical students and conducting medical research before moving to Germany in 2011.
At the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE), she conducted her doctoral research and was awarded the German doctoral degree (Dr. med.). She also completed a two-year postgraduate program in Molecular Neurobiology and Neurogenetics, earning a postgraduate diploma in the field. Dr. Elakkary completed her specialist training in Neurology at the University Hospital Bielefeld (EvKB), followed by an Epileptology Fellowship at Mara Epilepsy Centre, Bethel, Bielefeld University where she developed expertise in complex and drug-resistant epilepsy, rare epilepsy syndromes, prolonged video-EEG monitoring, presurgical epilepsy evaluation, and advanced neurophysiological diagnostics. She has held consultant and senior consultant positions, most recently as Executive Senior Consultant Neurologist at Klinikum Lippe, University Hospital Bielefeld where she established a specialized inpatient epilepsy unit and outpatient epilepsy clinic.
In addition to her German board certification in Neurology, Dr. Elakkary holds certifications in Epileptology (DGfE), EEG (DGKN), and Neurosonology (DEGUM). She has authored scientific publications in international peer-reviewed journals and is actively involved in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate medical students.
