The Paediatric department provides specialised care in the following areas:
Childbirth and newborns
All high-risk deliveries at Mediclinic City Hospital are attended by a paediatrician or neonatologist. We have state-of-the-art delivery rooms and a full-term nursery to take care of your newborn. Our neonatal trained nurses and midwives help new mothers take care of their newborn baby, including help with breastfeeding, bathing, cleaning and other day-to-day care.
Before discharge, your baby will receive vaccinations against Hepatitis B and BCG and blood samples will be sent for newborn screening tests for common metabolic disorders in infancy. After discharge from the hospital, your child will be followed regularly in the paediatric outpatient clinic to make sure they receive their vaccinations on time and to ensure they are growing and developing well.
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
Mediclinic City Hospital has upgraded and expanded its Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) from 12 to 27 beds, making it one of the largest level three NICU facilities in the UAE. Occupational therapy enables children with developmental delay and/or specific paediatric conditions to develop and achieve physical (gross and fine motor), cognitive and visual-perceptual skills to perform in self-care, social, play and scholastic areas. Therapy is provided through age-appropriate activities to address underlying impairments, provide adaptive tools and modify your child’s environment to facilitate their development. The occupational therapist works closely with parents and teachers to develop goals and review progress regularly.
Our Paediatric Occupational Therapist is experienced with autism spectrum disorder, ADD/ADHD, developmental delay, sensory processing disorder, dyspraxia and chromosomal abnormalities (particular interest in William's Syndrome). Both sensory and behavioural approaches are used for intervention.
