Summary
Dr Maida Balila has American and Canadian board certification in internal medicine and infectious diseases. She completed residency training in internal medicine and a fellowship in infectious diseases at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Canada. She received additional training at the Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital in London in the areas of microbiology, infection control and prevention, and tropical diseases and travel-related infections.
She provides general medical care to adult patients presenting with acute and chronic medical conditions in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. Her training in infectious diseases has provided her with expertise in the prevention and management of acute and chronic infectious diseases in adults, including community- and hospital-acquired infections as well as infections in special populations including surgical patients, critically-ill patients, immunocompromised hosts (transplant recipients and HIV-infected patients), and returning travellers.
Dr Balila holds professional memberships with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the American College of Physicians, the Infectious Diseases Society of America, and the General Medical Council of the United Kingdom.
