Dr. Shaikh has more than 11 years of experience in Ophthalmology and is specialised in procedures such as pars plana vitrectomy (25 & 23 gauge), scleral buckling, pneumatic retinopexy, intravitreal lucentis/avastin and Ozurdex injection, management of retinopathy of prematurity and retinal laser photocoagulation and cataract surgeries by phacoemulsification under topical anaesthesia. He has performed more than 1000 cataract surgeries by phacoemulsification and a similar number of vitreo-retinal surgeriesHe also performs a variety of surgeries for trauma to the eye as well as lasers for retinal diseases like diabetic retinopathy.
He has obtained his fellowship in Ophthalmology (FRCS) from Royal college of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, UK.
He graduated from Seth G.S. Medical college and K.E.M. Hospital Mumbai, one of the highest ranked medical colleges in India. He gained his postgraduate qualification in Ophthalmology from LTM Medical College, Mumbai and later gained his fellowship in Vitreoretinal Surgery from Shri Ganapati Netralaya, India.
He has also worked for organisations such as the WHO and ORBIS on projects to prevent and treat blindness in India. He is faculty for the European School for Advanced Studies in Ophthalmology
Recently, Dr. Shaikh was involved in setting up a telemedicine project for the DHA to screen diabetic patients for diabetic retinopathy and was involved in training and giving lectures to general practitioners in grading and staging and triaging the patients with diabetic retinopathy.
