Dr. Nazimul Hussain obtained his masters in Ophthalmology (MS) in 1996 from Gauhati University, Assam and Diplomate of National Board (Ophthalmology) in 1997. He completed his fellowship training in vitreoretinal retinal disease (1997-98) from the prestigious L.V. Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad, India. During his fellowship, he was awarded the "Best Ophthalmology fellow". He was also awarded the "Fellow American College of Surgeons". He is also an affiliate Member of the Royal College of Ophthalmology (London). Dr. Hussain was extensively involved in clinical and basic research and has been actively involved in the genetic study of age-related macular degeneration with his colleagues in molecular genetics. He has also collaborated in the animal studies. He has been principal and co-investigator in many multicentre clinical trials like the FAME study, radial optic neurotomy study, proteomic and genetic study. Dr. Nazimul Hussain has published in 44 peer reviewed and 22 non-peer reviewed journals. He has also contributed in 14 chapters in textbooks. He has also edited and authored ""Textbook of Vitreoretinal Surgery"" published in 2009. Dr. Hussain has made more than 150 presentations as an invited faculty in both national (India) and international conferences. He was awarded the "Aleem Memorial Lecture" by the Bangladesh Ophthalmological Society in 2006. Dr. Nazimul Hussain worked as a Consultant (1998 – 2001) and an Associate Professor, Chief of Macula Centre and Incharge Zeiss Laser training (2003 – 2007) in Smt. Kanuri Santhamma Retina Vitreous Centre, L.V. Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad, India (1998-2001). He worked as an Assistant Medical Director and Vitreoretinal Surgeon and visiting professor to fellowship training in Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital (2001-2003). He was Program Director for LVP-Indian Ophthalmology College Education (Non-Profit). He worked as Vitreoretinal Specialist at Al Zahra Pvt Hospital, Sharjah from 2008 until 2018 August. He has trained vitreoretinal fellows for 10 years and was actively involved in the research projects of Bausch & Lomb School of Optometry. He is a reviewer for many international journals, namely Clinical Ophthalmology, Acta Ophthalmologica Scandinavia, Journal of Ocular Therapeutics and Pharmacology, Indian Journal of Ophthalmology, Ophthalmic Surgery lasers and Imaging and others. His areas of expertise are macular diseases, diabetic retinopathy and advanced vitreoretinal surgery. He has performed more 10,000 vitreoretinal surgeries in his professional life.
