- Dr. Nazimul Hussain is a senior Vitreoretinal Surgeon with more than 25 years of advanced clinical, surgical and academic experience in the management of complex retinal and macular diseases. He currently serves as the Head of the Department of Ophthalmology at Mediclinic Parkview Hospital, where he leads a multidisciplinary team providing comprehensive eye care to thousands of patients each month.
Dr. Nazimul completed his MS and DNB in Ophthalmology before pursuing a prestigious Fellowship in Vitreoretinal Diseases at the L.V. Prasad Eye Institute, India, where he received the Best Ophthalmology Fellow Award. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), Fellow of the American Society of Retina Specialists (FASRS), Fellow of the All-India Collegium of Ophthalmology (FAICO – Retina), and an Affiliate Member of the Royal College of Ophthalmology (London).
Before joining Mediclinic Parkview Hospital, Dr. Nazimul held academic and clinical appointments at L.V. Prasad Eye Institute, Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital, India (1998-2008), and Al Zahra Hospital, Sharjah, UAE (2008-2018). Throughout his career, he has remained actively involved in physician education, fellowship training, and mentoring the next generation of retinal specialists, including Bausch & Lomb School of Optometry, India.
Over his career, Dr. Nazimul has performed more than 10,000 vitreoretinal surgeries, including retinal detachment repair, macular hole surgery, diabetic retinopathy management, and complex vitreoretinal procedures. His clinical expertise spans macular diseases, diabetic eye disease, retinal vascular disorders, and advanced surgical techniques, with a strong focus on delivering precise, evidence based, patient centred care.
An academic and researcher, Dr. Nazimul has authored over 55 peer reviewed publications, 22 non peer reviewed articles, and 14 textbook chapters. He is also the co editor and author of the “Textbook of Vitreoretinal Surgery” (2009). His scientific contributions appear in leading journals including Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science, American Journal of Ophthalmology, Graefe’s Archives of Clinical & Experimental Ophthalmology, Japanese Journal of Ophthalmology, Clinical Ophthalmology, Ocular Surgery Laser & Imaging, Indian Journal of Ophthalmology, etc. He has been a principal or co investigator in major multicentre clinical trials, including genetic studies in age related macular degeneration and diabetic macular edema (FAME Study).
Dr. Nazimul has delivered over 150 invited lectures at national and international conferences and received the Aleem Memorial Guest Lecture Award from the Bangladesh Ophthalmological Society. He has trained numerous vitreoretinal fellows, contributed to optometry education, and serves as a reviewer for several international ophthalmology journals.
