Summary: Dr Maria Borrelli is a licensed ophthalmologist with 15 years of experience. She completed her medical degree at the Seconda Università degli Studi di Napoli, followed by specialised training in ophthalmology and oculoplastics, as well as a PhD in Experimental Surgery.
In 2011, Dr Borrelli moved to Düsseldorf, Germany, where she was appointed Consultant and shortly after became Head of the Oculoplastic and Lacrimal Service at the University of Düsseldorf. She has extensive experience in managing patients with lacrimal disorders, lid malpositions and eyelid tumours. Over the years, her clinical and surgical expertise has expanded to include anterior segment pathologies such as cataract, lamellar and penetrating corneal transplants.
Since 2023, she has been appointed as a Trainer for the Oculoplastic Fellowship Programme of the DOG (Deutsche Ophthalmologische Gesellschaft) and is actively involved in teaching ophthalmology residents.
Dr Borrelli is the author of several peer-reviewed publications in international journals and has participated as a speaker at various national and international conferences.
In October 2025, she joined the Mediclinic Middle East team at Mediclinic City Hospital, based in Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC).
