Mediclinic City Hospital has an ultramodern radiology and imaging department equipped with the state of the art imaging modalities. It is managed by a team of dedicated radiologists and technologists headed by a highly qualified and experienced senior consultant radiologist.

Specialised imaging facilities include:

RIS/PACS

The department is virtually paperless and filmless with the use of RIS and PACS (Radiology Information System and Picture Archiving Communication System). As soon as the investigation is over, the images reache the radiologist’s and physician’s computer for viewing and interpretation; thus avoiding any loss of time in the management of the patients. All the interpretation reports and images are available digitally at all times. There is no chance of losing a film or report nor there is any chance of mixing up reports. Subsequent investigations can be compared with the previous studies easily – only a click of a button away!

MRI (3T)

The latest MRI machine provides accurate investigation of brain, spine and joints. In addition it is capable of studies of the liver, biliary tree (MRCPs) and pelvic organs.

One of the recent developments is its capability of imaging breasts (with special breast coil) in difficult to diagnose cases. MR angiogram scans the arteries and veins of the brain, body, extremities and abdomen.

CT SCAN

The upgrade to multi-slice CT and the multi-formatted, 3D images it provides has increased our diagnostic capability. Studies can also be completed in a few seconds.  One of the distinct advantages of this machine is its capability to evaluate the coronary arteries of the heart non-invasively with a facility to estimate calcium scoring. More and more patients and physicians prefer this non-invasive method of investigating coronary arteries.

CT-guided biopsies and drainage procedures are done routinely. This machine is supported by a modern pressure injector for contrast medium injection. The 3D images are of great help in the evaluation of fractures, tumours and aneurysms.

CT angiogram is of value in pulmonary embolism, abdominal arteries and extremities, neck and brain vessels. CT-guided drainage procedures prevent surgeries.

CT assisted virtual colonoscopy is an important tool that can be applied to very sick patients who are not fit for colonoscopy.

CARDIAC MRI

Cardiac MRI is a non-invasive technique used to diagnose and evaluate conditions such as:

  • Congenital heart defects
  • Heart valve problems
  • Coronary artery blockage and heart attacks
  • Congestive heart failure
  • Pericardial sac disease
  • Heart tumours

Based on same principles as MRI but optimised for use in the cardiovascular system so key functional and morphological features can be assessed. These optimisations are principally in the use of ECG gating and rapid imaging techniques or sequences.

  • No ionising radiation is used
  • Can perform infarct imaging using contrast media study
  • MRA (magnetic resonance angiography) can produce 3D and 4D images of blood vessels and the flow of blood through the vessels
  • With our 3 Tesla MRI, we produce better resolution imaging in a shorter space of time

PERINATAL SERVICES

Mediclinic City Hospital offers the following perinatal screening services:
• Perinatal screening - 11+6 to  13+6 weeks (NTT+biochemistry)
• Dating scan - 11-13 weeks
• Foetal anomaly scan - 20-24 weeks
• Prevention and detection of preterm labour - cervical length measurement and fibronectin test
• Foetal echocardiography
• Foetal surveillance of high risk cases -diabetes, high blood pressure, growth retarded babies, twin pregnancies
• 3D and 4D scans

We also offer non-invasive tests for major chromosomal problems using maternal blood.  Our laboratory offers prenatal screening with biochemistry markers and risk evaluation.
