Take breaks when using digital devices
With the increased use of digital devices during summer vacations or outdoor activities, it's essential to give your eyes regular breaks. Every 20 minutes, take a 20-second break and look at something 20 feet away, as this can help reduce eye strain.

Hand washing
Before touching or rubbing the eyes, it is necessary to wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water, to protect them from infection and inflammation caused by viruses and bacteria.

Wear swimming goggles
Before going in the sea, put on swimming goggles, because salt may cause inflammation, burning and itching in the eyes.
The same applies to swimming pools, as they contain chlorine, which threatens the eye with the same damage.

Avoid the afternoon sun
Try to stay inside especially during the mornings and afternoons [10am - 3pm].  This is when the sun's strength and UV rays are the strongest.  If you need to go outside wear polarised lenses as they reduce glare

Avoid direct air conditioning
It is important to be aware of the fact that air conditioning causes dry eyes. Therefore, one must avoid direct flow of air into the eye and keep them moist.

Sunscreen
While applying sunscreen, try to avoid contact with eyes as this can cause irritation. Proper eye care during the summer is essential. If you experience any irritation, wash your eyes thoroughly with clean water.

Quit smoking
Cigarette smoke, including second-hand smoke, worsens dry eyes, and increases the risk of many eye diseases, including cataracts. Smoking cessation reduces the risk of developing eye diseases and other major health problems.

Avoid wearing contact lenses while swimming
One of the most important precautionary steps to be followed is to remove contact lenses before swimming, as wearing them can cause many risks and negative effects that threaten the health and safety of the eyes, such as ulcers and infections.

Use sunglasses
Continuous exposure to sunlight or UV rays may cause cataracts or skin cancer of the eyelids. When you are outside in the sun, always wear sunglasses that provide adequate UV protection.

Regular eye exams
Regular eye exams are essential, especially for people with diabetes, as diabetes can increase the risk of retinal diseases such as diabetic retinopathy, which can cause permanent vision loss if not detected and treated early.

Healthy food
Healthy food is necessary for children’s growth and good vision. For example: salmon, green vegetables, seeds, eggs, carrots, yogurt and meat.
