On 8th August 2021, Dr. Labib Riachi, Consultant Gynaecology Surgeon, performed Dubai’s first robotic cervico sacropexy for the treatment of uterine prolapse at Mediclinic City Hospital.

Uterine prolapse is a condition common among women and occurs when pelvic floor muscles weakens and can no longer support the organ. The uterus then slips down into or protrudes out of the vagina.

Cervico Sacropexy, or Sacro colpopexy are gold standard procedures to correct such apical prolapse in women.

At Mediclinic City Hospital, this procedure was performed on a 41 year old lady who was suffering from pain and pressure which were affecting her daily activities.

Dr. Labib Riachi comments, “Cervico sacropexy is a complex procedure made easier when done using robotic technology. Augmenting the traditional surgery method, minimally invasive robotic surgery allows unsurpassed visualizations, depth perception, dexterity, and ease at suturing, delivering excellent results”

Based on the patient’s diagnosis, Dr. Labib Riachi performed robotic assisted surgery to restore the integrity of the pelvic floor and correct uterine prolapse. The patient was discharged and able to feel an immediate difference the next day of surgery.

After her follow up, the patient also commented that “I was very overwhelmed when I heard about my condition as I did not hear about this before and to have had this diagnosed at my age made me feel very anxious, but thanks to Dr Labib, his thorough explanation and the new robotic surgical technique, I was able to get back on my feet the very next day without feeling any pain or discomfort “
