When discussing ankle braces and AFOs it is important to consider the SAFO®. The SAFO® is a custom made silicone ankle brace made to a plaster mould of each individual client’s foot and ankle. It is manufactured using a combination of medical grade silicones.
These various hardness grades of silicone are used to ensure that each product meets the biomechanical needs of the patient, creating a product that is comfortable a, functional and incredible cosmetic. It allows the use of sandals and a variety of shoes, or even to be used without shoes. Mediclinic’s orthotic service is the leader in fitting these remarkable devices to successfully alleviate the symptoms of what is commonly referred to as ‘drop foot’. Designed as an alternative to the traditional rigid AFO devices the dynamic nature of the SAFO® has seen it used successfully for a wide variety of conditions including CMT, stroke, incomplete spinal injuries, MS and cerebral palsy to name but a few.
