Every journey has its essentials.
Remember to complete your vaccinations before you travel.

Pilgrimage often involves long journeys, large crowds and exposure to varying climates, all of which can increase the risk of illness. To help protect your health, certain vaccinations are recommended and required before travel. In crowded environments, infectious diseases such as influenza and meningitis can spread more easily. By ensuring you are up to date with the appropriate vaccinations ahead of your pilgrimage, you can significantly reduce your risk of illness and strengthen your immune protection, allowing you to embark on a safe and healthy journey.

Vaccine validity and repeat doses

Vaccinations are generally recommended at least 10 to 14 days before travel, in line with UAE and KSA health guidelines. During the consultation, your clinician will review your travel timing, vaccination history and any relevant risk factors, then confirm which vaccines you need and when you should take them. This approach helps ensure you meet the recommended requirements and have enough time for protection to develop before you travel.

Meningococcal vaccination is required for individuals aged one year and above travelling for Hajj or Umrah. The Meningococcal Conjugate Vaccine is valid for 5 years, and the Meningococcal Polysaccharide Vaccine is valid for 3 years. If you have had a meningococcal vaccination in the past, your clinician will review the type and date to confirm whether you are still covered or require a repeat dose.

Seasonal influenza vaccination is required for individuals aged six months and above travelling for Hajj or Umrah. It is not required if you have received it within the past 12 months. Your clinician can confirm whether your previous influenza vaccination meets the timing requirement.

Optional vaccination for higher-risk patients

A Pneumococcal Vaccine may be recommended for higher-risk individuals and those aged 65 and above. This is offered as an optional vaccine, based on clinician judgement and individual risk factors. Your clinician can advise whether this additional protection is appropriate based on your medical history and risk profile.

Vaccination card

Upon completion of the Hajj or Umrah vaccination, you will be issued a vaccination card as proof of vaccination. This card does not act as a travel certificate.
