What is more, many of our departments have been recognised as Centres of Excellence by a variety of world renowned organizations such as the Surgical Review Corporation.

Put simply, a Centre of Excellence is a department of a hospital that offers world-class care within its speciality. To be recognised as a Centre of Excellence, a department undergoes a formal audit by world leading experts in the field and must follow a set of strict standards and evidence-based best practices related to the speciality. Centres of Excellence are staffed by a highly expert team and are driven by quality, continuous improvement and patient feedback.

How does a department become a Centre of Excellence?

The name “Centre of Excellence” is more than simply a claim, it must be back by independent verification. To become a Centre of Excellence, a department must:

• Be formally audited by subject-matter experts from the Surgical Review Corporation
• Meet or exceed a comprehensive set of international standards
• Be subject to regular performance reviews and re-accreditation audits
• Be staffed by expert specialists and subspecialists and driven by continuous improvement.

Be aware of the label a department makes – if it cannot be backed up by official independent verification, then they are not a true Centre of Excellence. The same applies to other accreditations, such as those held by many of our hospitals.
