Aviation medicine services are now available at Mediclinic Parkview Hospital.

The Aviation Medicine clinic has an aviation medicine specialist, Dr John Ferguson, who was appointed as a GCAA AME (Aeromedical Examiner) in 2004, Senior AME in 2010 and MRO (Medical Review Officer) in 2011.  He has a wealth of experience in dealing with the aeromedical certification of professional pilots, cabin crew and air traffic controllers.

​Aviation Medicine is a medical speciality which combines aspects of preventative, occupational, environmental and clinical medicine with the physiology and psychology of man in flight e.g. pilots, aircrews etc.  It is concerned with the health and safety of those who fly, both crew and passengers, as well as the selection and performance of those who hold aviation licenses.

Requirements include checks of eyesight, ears, physical examination, electrocardiogram (ECG), lung function, blood cholesterol, blood haemoglobin, chest x-ray, urine and period of validity.
