The Rheumatology department provides the following services for patients with rheumatic disorders:
  • Assessment of all types of musculoskeletal aches and pains
  • Local steroid injections -  intra and juxta articular injection
  • Management and monitoring of all inflammatory and immunological conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, systemic lupus disease, Behcets disease and all similar conditions
  • Management of other conditions such as gout, pseudogout and other calcified conditions
  • Assessment and treatment of bone conditions like osteoporosis, osteomalacia and periostitis
  • Management of conditions such as osteoarthritis, regional pains, non-surgical back pains
  • Ultrasonographic examination for peripheral joints and tendons
  • Initiating and monitoring all immunomodulation therapies like methotrexate, leflunomide, azathioprine, mycophenolate, cyclosporines and similar therapies
  • Multidisciplinary role in aiding therapy decision for conditions like uveitis, psoriasis, colitis, nephritis, interstitial lung diseases
  • Make decisions on biologic therapies for rheumatic conditions and also for other related conditions (multidisciplinary role) and monitor these therapies
  • Requesting imaging e.g. MRI, US, CT etc. for rheumatic conditions and referring to Physiotherapy
  • Inpatient admission of patients with high severity inflammatory and non-inflammatory conditions
