The Rheumatology department provides the following services for patients with rheumatic disorders:
- Assessment of all types of musculoskeletal aches and pains
- Local steroid injections - intra and juxta articular injection
- Management and monitoring of all inflammatory and immunological conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, systemic lupus disease, Behcets disease and all similar conditions
- Management of other conditions such as gout, pseudogout and other calcified conditions
- Assessment and treatment of bone conditions like osteoporosis, osteomalacia and periostitis
- Management of conditions such as osteoarthritis, regional pains, non-surgical back pains
- Ultrasonographic examination for peripheral joints and tendons
- Initiating and monitoring all immunomodulation therapies like methotrexate, leflunomide, azathioprine, mycophenolate, cyclosporines and similar therapies
- Multidisciplinary role in aiding therapy decision for conditions like uveitis, psoriasis, colitis, nephritis, interstitial lung diseases
- Make decisions on biologic therapies for rheumatic conditions and also for other related conditions (multidisciplinary role) and monitor these therapies
- Requesting imaging e.g. MRI, US, CT etc. for rheumatic conditions and referring to Physiotherapy
- Inpatient admission of patients with high severity inflammatory and non-inflammatory conditions
