Paediatric Oncology/Haematology is a specialised field of medicine that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of childhood cancers and blood disorders.

Over the last decade, survival of children with haematological and oncological diseases has improved dramatically as a result of significant research in these fields, and aggressive treatment with different modalities including surgical resection chemotherapy, radiation and bone marrow transplant has improved the cure rate of most childhood cancer.

The discipline includes screening, laboratory and specialised diagnostic tests, and treatment of acute leukaemia, lymphoma and solid tumours.  Other services include comprehensive treatment for patients with chronic haematological diseases e.g. sickle cell disease, thalassemia and various bleeding disorders.
